Are you ready to elevate your culinary career? The iconic Royal Oak Hotel in Double Bay is seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Sous Chef to join our talented kitchen team.

As the Second-in-Command (2IC) to our Head Chef, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional dining experiences. You’ll bring leadership, creativity, and a deep commitment to quality and consistency to this dynamic role.

The Venue:

Renowned as one of Eastern Suburbs most iconic establishments, The Royal Oak Hotel’s convenient location, multi-level venue, friendly staff and loyal to local approach is what makes us Double Bay’s favourite local for 149 years. Famous for Phil’s Rooftop, along with an extensive menu with a delicious selection including vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. The Oak is the Eastern Suburb’s most popular destination no matter what day of the week, with a dedicated sports bar showing all major domestic and international sports, full TAB facilities and no shortage of entertainment, with our resident DJ’s lined up over the weekends. Our team can create everything from intimate celebrations to large scale corporate events and experiences to ensure a memorable event every visit.

Our food menu takes on classic local favourites with a healthy dose of creative seasonal dishes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Chef in managing day-to-day kitchen operations.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the kitchen team to deliver high standards.
  • Assist in menu planning and development, ensuring creativity and seasonal variety.
  • Maintain food quality, presentation, and consistency across all dishes.
  • Oversee stock management, ordering, and inventory control.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and workplace health standards.
  • Contribute to fostering a positive and collaborative kitchen culture.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a high-volume venue.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • A passion for food and a commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant culinary qualifications and certifications.
