Introduction

Our client, a prestigious fine dining restaurant in Stellenbosch, is seeking a Pastry Commis Chef to join their talented culinary team. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate, detail-oriented individual looking to develop their pastry skills in a world-class kitchen environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist senior pastry chefs with daily preparation and service.
  • Ensure consistency and quality in the preparation of all menu items.
  • Conduct daily freshness and quality checks on ingredients and mise en place.
  • Maintain product rotation and adhere to food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
  • Contribute ideas and feedback during daily briefings.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient work area at all times.
  • Follow all kitchen safety, sanitation, and HACCP standards.

 

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Grade 12 with a recognised Chef Certificate or Diploma.
  • 1–2 years’ experience as a Commis Chef, ideally in a fine dining or 5-star establishment.
  • Passion for pastry and a commitment to high standards of food presentation.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation, and time management.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain composed and efficient under pressure.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
