Summary

The Bar & Book Restaurant Manager directs the operation to ensure profitability, quality entertainment, and hospitality.  This is accomplished by providing positive leadership and a work environment conducive to team efforts in reaching the company’s goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Focuses efforts on staff management, increasing sales, customer relations and business planning for the Bar & Book. 
  2. In conjunction with the appropriate Department Head/Manager, oversees the day-to-day operations of the restaurant, bar and concession stand. Takes direction from Director of Marketing with regard to Star Player Rewards related needs.
  3. Responds to customer complaints and builds customer loyalty.
  4. Responsible for labor cost control and cost of goods control.
  5. Responsible for maintenance of the facility by continuously communicating with the Engineering department as repair and maintenance needs arise.
  6. Responsible for cleanliness of the facility by continuously communicating with the Janitorial service company.
  7. In conjunction with the Human Resources Department  and Director of Food and Beverage, coordinates and participates in the functions of interviewing, hiring, training, development and discipline, and compliance with applicable state, federal, and local laws of food and beverage team members in the Bar and Book.
  8. Follows through on all Lone Star Park policies and procedures.
  9. Monitors the physical condition of the building and equipment and notifies Building Maintenance of deficiencies in the facility.
  10. Verifies that employees are licensed by the Texas Racing Commission if they fall into categories by which licenses are required.
  11. Attends, where necessary and appropriate, weekly staff communication meetings and assures information flow to team members and/or other departments.
  12. Ensures all departments comply with OSHA regulations including the Hazard Communication Program.
  13. Develops and maintains rapport with local community business professionals.
  14. Interacts with personnel and the general public in a professional, ethical manner.
  15. Maintains integrity and confidentiality of all company, customer, and employee-related information.
  16. Ensures job-related injuries/illnesses are reported timely in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  17. Maintains department records and other reports as required for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  18. Attends all emergency preparedness, safety training, and safety committee meetings (or assigns designee as appropriate).
  19. Contributes to a positive work environment by participating in company and/or employee events and activities.
  20. Works the hours necessary to ensure customer satisfaction, which may include odd hours and/or remaining on-call for problem solving purposes.
  21. Performs all other work related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Operations.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  1. 5+ years related management experience and/or training; or 7+ years of job related experience.
  2. Possess strong organization and leaderships skills with a focus on meeting customer needs.
  3. Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret policy and procedures, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  4. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  5. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, fractions and percentages.  Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematical skills.
  6. Ability to motivate and supervise subordinate personnel.
  7. Excellent written and oral communication skills required, including problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  8. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, analyze financial statements/documents and draw valid conclusions.
  9. Ability to interact positively with employees and the general public.
