Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Preparing and cooking meals
  • Work with other chefs and provide support and share best practice
  • In partnership with colleagues’ input into the creation of new and innovative menus and products
  • Effective communication with general assistants to ensure meals are assembled to the required plan and standard
  • Advise Stores and Procurement regarding the placement of orders and ensure the right products are being purchased
  • Prepare and conduct Customer presentations
  • Effectively communicate with the Shift Manager and advise on any issues, concerns or crisis with Production or delivery
  • To actively support continuous improvement efficiencies within the Kitchen and across the business
  • Ensure internal quality assurance checks versus approved specification/recipes
  • To communicate, engage and develop team members to enable them to maximise their contribution to the department’s performance and create succession planning opportunities.

 

Qualifications and Experience: 

Education: 

  • Educated to GSE or ‘O’ levels; 
  • Basic Food hygiene training/certification
  • A recognised City & Guilds qualification or NVQ Level 2 for a Chef desirable 

 

Work Experience: 

  • Significant experience of cooking Chinese food in a hotel/restaurant/airline environment.

 

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Mandarin
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.  
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work unsupervised in a busy environment using own initiative 
  • Basic computer skills 
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Accurate/detailed focused
