Job Summary:
Three Oaks Hospitality, a collection of community-driven restaurants and bars, is seeking an experienced Sommelier for Steelbach to oversee and elevate our wine and beverage program. Located at Armature Works, Steelbach is a Southern-inspired kitchen and chophouse offering innovative food paired with timeless flair.
The Sommelier will possess strong leadership and team development skills. Responsibilities include curating the wine list, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring world-class service standards. In addition, this position plays a supervisory role within the front-of-house team — leading education, supporting operations during service, and assisting management with opening and closing responsibilities. This role requires a balance of deep wine expertise, operational leadership, and a passion for developing both the beverage program and team culture.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Provides daily leadership andmentorship for the front-of-house team.
- Conducts pre-shift wine tastings and beverage educationsessions.
- Oversees floor operations during service, ensuring proper wineservice and guest engagement.
- Assists management with opening and closing duties, includingshift handoff, end-of-day reporting, and service station readiness.
- Supports scheduling, performance feedback, and training for FOHteam members.
- Represents the beverage program in management meetings andstrategy discussions.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Curate, update, and maintain the wine list in collaboration with the Executive Chef and General Manager.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive wine and beverage training program for all service staff.
- Lead guest interactions related to wine pairing, product knowledge, and table-side service.
- Oversee daily wine cellar management, including inventory accuracy, storage, and cost control.
- Foster and maintain relationships with vendors and distributors; secure allocations and negotiate pricing.
- Collaborate with the bar manager to align wine, cocktail, and spirits programs under one cohesive beverage strategy.
- Plan and execute wine dinners, tastings, and special events that showcase the brand and drive incremental sales.
- Monitor beverage performance metrics, track sales trends, and support profitability initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with health, safety, and alcohol service standards.
- Participate in leadership-level opening and closing duties to ensure a smooth and consistent operation.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and inspire a hospitality team.
- Excellent guest service and communication skills.
- Expert-level wine knowledge, with strong understanding of spirits and craft cocktails.
- Strong organizational and multitasking ability, particularly during service.
- High attention to detail with focus on cost control and profitability.
- Capable of performing opening and closing operational checklists efficiently.
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of sommelierexperience in an upscale or fine dining restaurant.
- Formal certification (Certified Sommelier, CMS or WSET Level 3+)preferred.
- Prior supervisory or lead experience required.
- Proven success managing beverage inventory and training serviceteams.
- Current Food Handler and Alcohol Service certificationsrequired.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing and walking forextended periods.
- Lifting and transporting up to 25 pounds.
- Must meet legal age requirements for alcohol service.
