JOB SUMMARY

The Sommelier is responsible for assisting with wine and food pairings for the menu and overseeing the serving of wines to our guests


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintaining an updated list of wines that complement our food selections
  • Maintain adequate par level of wines in each outlet and in stores
  • Collaborating with chefs and the Group Food & Beverage Director and Food and Beverage manager when making selections
  • Creating food and wine pairings for each of our seasonal menus
  • Recommending wines to patrons based on personal taste, and food selection
  • Overseeing the serving and storage of wine and training the waitstaff on the wine selection
  • Making sure wines are served in the correct glassware and at the proper temperature
  • Ensure enough glassware is available in every outlet
  • Making sure all guests served wine are of proper age
  • Following all safety and health regulations
  • Store open bottles properly to maintain strong taste
  • Organize wine tasting days or “wine of the month” events


  REQUIREMENTS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • A minimum of two years experience in a restaurant as a Sommelier, Wine Steward/Stewardess or similar role
  • Certification as a sommelier
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality or a related field
  • Extensive knowledge of Wines and their Region
  • An understanding of the wine making process
  • Experience in Sales
  • Excellent Communication Skills and presentation skills
  • Great Customer Service Skills
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to multitask
  • Bilingual in English and French, Italian, or Spanish would be an asset
