CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The HR Director is responsible for the full employee life cycle which includes recruitment, checking references, onboarding, compensation, benefits, training, termination, personnel policies, and compliance with all applicable agencies. The HR Director serves as the critical link between the organization’s management and its employees. A crucial role of this position is to manage the organizational and company culture, which includes the values, attitudes, and goals that are shared among employees and managers.
TASKS:
Recruitment, Onboarding, Retention, and Offboarding
- Actively communicate with all department directors to monitor staffing needs, changes and recruit for current and projected talent needs.
- Manage hiring and onboarding processes for all staff, including reference checks and coordination of all initial training and assimilation. Support hiring managers by providing initial interviews and making hiring recommendations. Support leadership with BambooHR for documentation and deliver ongoing metrics and reporting to leadership team calling attention to notable trends, tracking interviews, and sending offer letters. With the hiring manager, recommend and be able to justify an equitable salary for all incoming staff.
- Conduct an annual internal and external wage and benefit audit. Make recommendations about suggested/needed changes to align with industry standards and support staff retention goals.
- With the leadership team, bi-annually evaluate, update, and train on the performance evaluation system and questions. Mentor and assist managers and employees as needed.
- Manage staff performance issues and terminations consistent with company policy and all State and Federal regulations.
- Monitor, support, and encourage continued training and educational opportunities.
- Responsible for ensuring Ascendigo abides by all employment laws including Affirmative Action and EEOC statutes. Educate and advise supervisors about employee rights and applicable policies.
- Manage onboarding and offboarding of all employees and manage employee files in compliance with mandatory rules and regulations.
- Per federal guidelines, develop, implement, and manage document retention policy.
- Responsible for recruiting, hiring, onboarding, offboarding and completing comprehensive background checks for 40+ summer seasonal employees annually.
Benefits Coordination
- Manage all employee benefits programs, staff eligibility/ineligibility, and enrollment and termination.
- Manage policy renewal/open enrollment process. Work directly with the broker to determine the best options and solicit bids for coverage as needed.
- Act as the first point of contact in addressing staff questions and/or problems regarding benefits and liaise with the broker as needed.
- Administer Ascendigo’s 401K program includes all ERISA filing and compliance.
- Administer FMLA, FAMLI, Workers’ Comp, Unemployment Insurance, and ADA in the workplace.
- Manage all reporting and survey filing related to benefits and employment.
Personnel Administration
- Enforce application of personnel policies and procedures throughout the company ensuring alignment with recommended policies nationally.
- In cooperation with program directors, create, provide recommendations, and revise job descriptions.
- Update the employee handbook and other policies as needed, no less than annually.
- Guide leadership team through performance evaluation process and ensure timely completion and follow through.
- Evaluate and monitor staff turnover and actively work on recruitment and retention strategies.
- Manage all terminations and separations, conduct exit interviews, ensure legal compliance of processes.
- Maintain awareness of personnel related issues and communicate with leadership team as necessary.
- Responsible for OSHA and all applicable federal and state reporting.
- Be able to provide high level, strategic recommendations where needed to ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations.
- Serve on the Ethics Committee, manage the agenda, facilitate, and communicate suggested changes to the leadership team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree in human resource management, business administration, or related field is strongly recommended.
- At least five years of human resources management or comparable experience with a solid background in policy development, Colorado and federal employment law, talent acquisition, retention, and management, with a human-centered approach to leadership.
- Experience in non-profit organization human resource management.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Display a positive attitude and show concern for people and community.
- A deep understanding of the non-profit, volunteer and/or social services sectors.
- Ability to work flexible hours. Some evenings, weekends and extended hours for meetings and events may be required.

- Must be 21 or over and have legal working status
- Valid driver’s license with no major violations in the past 5 years
- Clean background check with no felonies or flags
- Flexibility to travel for occasional professional development and resident activities
- Personal smartphone with texting capacity
- The ability to be onsite and in person at least 50% of the time.
