Bartender

SUMMARY OF POSITION

A Bartender is responsible for taking beverage orders and preparing beverages for bar guests and service staff. Bartenders are responsible for serving food and beverages to patrons in the bar and lounge area. Bartenders are responsible for positive guest interactions while serving patrons courteously and efficiently; consistently adhering to company policies. Bar staff ensures guest satisfaction, food quality, and cleanliness of the restaurant. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Take food, beverage, and bottle orders from guests correctly and accurately; enter orders into our POS system correctly. 
  • Ensure that all beverage orders are served in the correct clean and polished glassware with a beverage napkin. 
  • Describe and recommend wine selections, serve wine in appropriate glasses, and pour the wine for guests.
  • Prepare hot, cold, and mixed drink orders for guests according to specified recipes using measuring systems.  
  • Prepare fresh garnishes for drinks.  
  • Deliver food & beverages from kitchen and bar to guests in a timely and professional manner.  
  • Issue, open, and serve wine/champagne/liquor bottles.
  • Maintain clean service areas throughout the venue. 
  • Perform side work at the start and end of each shift as required by service station assignment. 
  • Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays according to bar setup guidelines for back bar displays. 
  • Anticipate and fully stock and secure all liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas at the beginning and end of shifts. 
  • Anticipate and communicate replenishment needs to bar-back staff, assisting as needed.  
  • Monitor and observe your guests' experience.  Ensure that they are satisfied with the food, beverages, and service.  
  • Prepare the bill, present a check to the guest, accept payment, process credit card charges, make the change (if applicable) and operate the cash register. 
  • Speak with fellow staff and guests using clear and professional language. 
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, support the team to reach common goals, and listen and respond appropriately to other employees' concerns. 
  • Inform guests of daily specials and suggestively sell specials and promotions as directed by management.  Upsell as much as possible.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Understand and memorize the food, drink, and bottle menus. 
  • Must request identification from customers when legal age is in question.   No one under 21 years of age may be served alcoholic beverages.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand orders.
  • Ability to handle cash, provide change, and balance receipts at the end of shift.
  • Performing for people or dealing directly with the public. This includes serving guests in restaurants and receiving guests.
  • Teamwork and customer relations oriented.        
  • Training for Alcohol Intervention Procedures Required. 
  • Food Safety Employee Training Required.
  • Responsible Vendors, Alcohol Awareness “ServSafe” Required.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Fluent in Spanish & English language is REQUIRED. 
  • Previous work experience as a bartender, including mixing and serving alcoholic beverages, opening bottles, and carrying trays.
  • Flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Successfully pass the Bartender Certification exam.

SKILLS

  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess basic math skills and can handle money, make changes and master the POS system.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Requires mobility and prolonged standing, sitting, or walking for an extended period of time.
  • Transporting, pulling, pushing, lifting, carrying, and maneuvering items weighing up to (30) thirty pounds, such as supplies, tubs, cases, etc. 
  • Reaches, bends, stoops, lifts, shakes, stirs, pours, carries, and pushes.
  • Performing for people or dealing directly with the public. 
  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands.  

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Work may be performed in small areas having (3) three-foot access.  
  • Work entails chemical usage.  
  • Ability to tolerate varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination, and air quality.

SENSORY DEMANDS

  • Bartenders must spend long hours in intense concentration. Must also spend time on the POS computer entering guest's order information, which requires attention to detail and high accuracy levels.
  • Normal sense of smell, touch, and sound.  
  • Normal vision range.  Eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity.  Ability to distinguish letters, symbols, or colors.

MENTAL DEMANDS

  • There are several demands associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. 
  • The incumbent must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
  • Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios.
