We are looking for a Junior Sous Chef who can help build and lead a team of culinary professionals committed to their craft, dedicated to delivering the finest dishes, celebrating the best of seasonal and locally sourced produce. 

Your day to day

Reporting to the Executive Chef, we are seeking a Junior Sous Chef with a passion for presentation, a dedication to flavor, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards from the workspace to the table and beyond. This key role involves leading and building a team focused on delivering exceptional dining experiences while ensuring the highest levels of food quality, presentation, and kitchen efficiency are consistently upheld. Every day is different, but you’ll mostly be:

  • Assisting in the curation of a unique and exiting menu sourcing the finest locally sourced produce
  • Demonstrating your in-depth expertise in multi-cuisine cooking techniques
  • Delivering memorable culinary experiences
  • Championing an energetic and professional culture committed to meeting our high standards of quality, flair and creativity
  • Managing and training staff, assess performance and support professional development programs
  • Work alongside our Executive Chef & Sous Chef and deliver industry leading Food & Beverage concepts
  • Ordering of supplies and exercising stock control and inventory management
  • Supporting the broader food and beverage operations of the hotel including room service, conferencing and events
  • Prep work across all areas of kitchen operations from breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and High tea operations
  • Assist the team with all kitchen tasks as required, to ensure the smooth workflow of orders and cleaning

What we need from you

  • Previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage
  • Qualifications in Commercial Cookery/Culinary Arts from a registered training provider
  • Food Safety Certification
  • Flexibility with night, weekend and public holiday shifts
  • Leadership experience in kitchen operations and the ability to perform all sections competently 
  • Ability to build and lead an enthusiastic and collaborative team
  • The ability to work efficiently under pressure and to prioritize tasks effectively
  • A creative and innovative approach to cooking and menu planning
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with other departments and staff
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene
  • Sometimes you’ll need to lift, push and pull big objects up to 50lbs (23 kg). This can involve bending and kneeling
