Job Summary
As an integral member of our Food & Beverage division, the Junior Sommelier supports the wine program under the strategic guidance of the Head Sommelier. This role plays a pivotal part in enhancing guest satisfaction by delivering exceptional wine service, ensuring inventory integrity, and facilitating continuous team development. The ideal candidate is passionate about wine, possesses strong interpersonal skills, and is committed to delivering luxury-level service aligned with our brand standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the presentation, service, and recommendation of wines, champagnes, and fortified wines.
• Offer informed suggestions to guests that align with menu pairings and personal preferences.
• Ensure all service complies with local and state alcohol laws and company policies.
• Maintain proper setup of wine stations and service tools (e.g., decanters, openers).
• Monitor cleanliness and accuracy of wine lists across all service points.
• Support the update and accuracy of the wine list in MICROS and other systems.
• Assist with regular stock counts and vintage/BIN number validations.
• Monitor stock rotation and report low-turnover items to the Head Sommelier.
• Ensure appropriate glassware and equipment are available and in good condition.
• Participate in monthly wine training sessions led by senior sommeliers.
• Share product knowledge and basic wine service techniques with server and bar staff.
• Attend wine tastings and vendor sessions to broaden product knowledge.
• Collaborate on wine promotions and support upselling initiatives.
• Provide insights into guest preferences and market trends to inform purchasing.
• Ensure alignment with wine sales targets as communicated by the leadership team.

Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements

• WSET Level 2 (minimum) or actively pursuing WSET Level 3 or equivalent certification (CMS, ASI).
• Minimum 1–2 years in a food and beverage environment, ideally within a luxury hotel or fine dining establishment.
• Basic understanding of wine regions, varietals, and food pairings.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken; additional languages are advantageous.
• Familiarity with POS systems (MICROS preferred).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• High attention to detail and organizational capability.
• Commitment to continuous learning and personal growth within the wine industry.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a high-performance team environment.
