We at Open Pantry Consulting are proud to be partnering with the Great Southern Hotel in Berry to recruit for a new Head Chef. This is a rare opportunity to take the reins of a much-loved South Coast venue that's about to level up in a big way.
 
About the Venue
A cornerstone of the Berry community, the Great Southern Hotel is known for its vibrant energy, great atmosphere, and strong weekend trade. With renovations due for completion later this year,  including a new deck and a total seating capacity of 350+, the team is now looking for a Head Chef who can elevate the food offering and help drive growth.
 
Your Role
This role is about more than running the pass — it's about building something special. You'll lead the back-of-house team, create a culture of excellence, and work closely with the GM and ownership team to develop systems and processes that support scale.
You will:

  • Manage day-to-day kitchen operations with hands-on leadership
  • Bring energy and clarity to a team of 8+, building structure and accountability
  • Take control of ordering and EOM stocktakes with support from My Local Foodie
  • Collaborate on an elevated, profitable pub menu with a seasonal focus
  • Drive volume and consistency across key service periods (Thu–Sun)
 
You Might Be a Fit If You...
  • Have led kitchens in a high-volume pub or bistro settings
  • Are confident in building kitchen culture and mentoring junior chefs
  • Understand how to manage food costs and stock with discipline
  • Are excited by the growth and want to help shape the next era of a great venue
  • Might be a strong Sous Chef ready for the next step, the team is open-minded for the right person
