Commodity Sourcing Buyer

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Commodity Sourcing Buyer to join our team in India. Reporting to the India Sourcing Manager, the successful candidate will work closely with the local plant and Global Procurement teams to implement Global sourcing strategies in India, sourcing core commodities, with new and existing strategic suppliers. This role is an opportunity to develop and manage strategic local supply chains with the best quality and total cost of acquisition, to support global manufacturing locations and achieve the best value for Spirax.

 

Key Accountabilities:
· Implement and execute local procurement strategies in alignment with global commodity strategies.
· Manage core commodities, ensuring cost-effectiveness and required quality and delivery, delivering year on year cost reduction.
· Perform zero-base costing and Total Cost of Acquisition (TCA) analysis.
· Monitor key commodities price trends and supplier/raw material price amendments at regular intervals.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with local suppliers to ensure reliable supply and best value.
· Collaborate with the Global Procurement and Commodity teams to align local activities with global objectives.
· Conduct market analysis to identify new sourcing opportunities and mitigate risks.
· Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements with suppliers to secure best terms.
· Monitor supplier performance and implement improvement plans as necessary.
· Conduct Strategic Business Reviews (SBR) with key suppliers.
· Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement function.

 

Experience and Qualifications Required:
· Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering or a related field.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, and commodity management.
· Strong experience in sourcing key mechanical commodities such as castings, forgings, machined and formed metals.

· Technical / engineering / quality experience or qualification, or a strong understanding of in relation to sourcing commodity parts.
· Knowledge of Health and Safety, QMS and Sustainability/ESG requirements and regulations.
· Proven experience in managing supplier relationships and negotiating contracts, commercial and legal Terms and Conditions.
· Strong understanding of local and global market dynamics and trends.
· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication (in English) and strong influencing and stakeholder management skills.
· Experience working within a matrix organisation
· ERP & MRP experience - ideally Oracle JD Edwards
· Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
· Professional certification such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply)
· Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Quality qualification or certification
· Project Management Qualification/experience a benefit e.g. PMP
· Experience in the manufacturing or industrial sector.
· Experience working in a global procurement environment.
