Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Commis Sommelier to join our team at the luxurious Constance Moofushi resort in the Maldives. As a Commis Sommelier, you will work closely with our Head Sommelier to provide exceptional wine service and enhance our guests' dining experiences.

• Assist the Head Sommelier in managing the resort's wine cellar and inventory
• Provide knowledgeable wine recommendations to guests, considering their preferences and menu selections
• Conduct wine tastings and participate in wine education sessions for guests and staff
• Maintain accurate records of wine sales and stock levels
• Ensure proper storage and handling of wines to maintain their quality
• Assist in creating and updating wine lists and menus
• Prepare and serve basic cocktails as required
• Collaborate with the food and beverage team to enhance wine and food pairings
• Maintain a clean and organised work environment
• Stay informed about current wine trends and new products in the market

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 1 or 2 certification preferred
• Strong knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and production methods
• Excellent understanding of food and wine pairing principles
• Previous experience in food and beverage service, preferably in a luxury hospitality setting
• Exceptional customer service skills with a professional and friendly demeanour
• Proficiency in operating Point of Sale (POS) systems
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Basic math skills for inventory management and sales reporting
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are an advantage
• Passion for continuous learning and staying updated on wine industry trends
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift boxes of wine (up to 20 kg)
