Position: Commis Chef – Exciting New Restaurant Opening Location: V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
A hardworking, eager-to-learn and well-presented Commis Chef with experience in busy restaurant or hotel kitchens. Skilled in basic food preparation, maintaining hygiene standards, supporting station chefs and contributing to smooth kitchen operations. Enthusiastic, disciplined and passionate about developing strong culinary foundations. Minimum Requirements
Matric or equivalent
Minimum 6 months to 1 year kitchen experience (or culinary internship)
Valid South African ID (no work permits)
Culinary qualification or in-progress studies advantageous
Basic knife skills and understanding of kitchen workflow
Strong hygiene, food safety and organisational skills
Ability to follow instructions and work well in a fast-paced environment
Core Skills
Basic food preparation: chopping, peeling, portioning and organising
Assisting Demi Chefs and CDPs with mise en place
Maintaining workstation cleanliness and hygiene
Proper labelling, storage and stock rotation
Following recipes, specs and guidance from senior chefs
Supporting hot, cold or pastry sections as required
Operating kitchen equipment safely
Working efficiently under pressure
Team communication and cooperation
